Key Storylines

-Are Either of these teams any good? The Pistons and Hornets both were without their superstar point guards for the majority of last season and now with Cade Cunningham and LaMelo Ball fully healthy, can either lead their team out of the lottery and into the future?  The Pistons are loaded with talent and stacked with former top-five picks across the board, but there is no indication that this is a competent basketball team despite narrowly losing to the Eastern Conference champs in the opening game of the season.  All eyes will be on Cunningham to see if he is going to make a leap or not because the Pistons will only go as far as he takes them.

– Same sad Hornets: The Hornets “shocked” the world by beating the Hawks in their opening game and it was the depth in the frontcourt that really helped them turn the tide.  PJ Washington looked like a legit two-way weapon and Mark Williams clearly made big strides coming into his second year.  The Hornets have been a laughingstock for almost a decade, but there is a clear path to mediocrity this season and if they get anything out of second overall pick Brandon Miller, the playoffs aren’t out of reach.  I’m going to have to see it a couple more times before I’m a believer, but there is hope for the first time in a long time in Charlotte.
