We are onto the final stretch before the playoffs in virtually every league, so let’s examine some waiver pickups to help you make the playoffs:
Spencer Schwellenbach – SP – ATL – 68% Yahoo, 71% Fantrax
Spencer Schwellenbach is making waves as a must-add in all fantasy baseball formats, especially given his recent performance. Over his last three starts, Schwellenbach has amassed an impressive 29 strikeouts without issuing a single walk, a feat that highlights his exceptional command and ability to induce swings and misses. His outing on Friday against the Marlins was particularly noteworthy, where he generated 17 swinging strikes, showcasing the effectiveness of his curveball and splitter. While Schwellenbach has surrendered five home runs during this stretch, his overall effectiveness shouldn’t be overshadowed. His current 4.04 ERA is respectable, but his 3.19 xERA (expected ERA) suggests even greater underlying skills, positioning him as a potential ace in the making. The diverse six-pitch arsenal he employs provides him with multiple ways to challenge hitters, enhancing his ability to remain effective deep into games.
Given his high strikeout rate and solid command, Schwellenbach should be considered a top waiver wire priority, especially in leagues where pitching depth is crucial. If he’s still available in your league, adding him could significantly bolster your pitching staff, providing both strikeouts and quality starts as he continues to develop at the major league level
