Paul’s Fantasy Baseball FAAB Recommendations – Week 23

    Congrats if you are still competing either in your playoffs or trying cash-out in OR win your roto leagues! Remember we do still have a couple more FAAB runs to go and injuries can strike at any time. So try to keep a few bucks for cheap injury replacement streams to finish out the year! Also, be sure you are adding players to meet your team’s category needs. Don’t add a power bat if you don’t need homers. Don’t add the speedster if you don’t need steals.

    In order of roster% – 

    12-TEAM LEAGUES (YAHOO ROSTER%)

    C Ethan Salas (4%) – SDP – This is a daily change league add in 2-catcher formats. I know he has a ton of prospect hype and is a catcher that can steal bases, but he is a glove first prospect who has modest potential at the plate. He is also looking like a strong side platoon and the Pads lineup to face three lefties next week so the volume isn’t there in weekly leagues. BID – 1-2%

    OF Spencer Jones (28%) – NYY – He has really figured things out, mostly. At least enough to consider him a strong add for the final weeks of the year. The elevated K% and chase rate are a bit concerning long-term still but for now, the dude is raking and the in-zone contact is at 81% over his last 99 plate appearances. In that time he has four homers, six steals and a .284 average. A 21.4% barrel rate and 50.0% hard-hit rate are also a way he can over come his plate discipline and hit tool defects. BID – All you can spend

    P Grayson Rodriguez (10%) – LAA – Don’t look now but we are seeing some signs of life from Rodriguez. Over his last five starts he has a 3.71 ERA (2.78 xERA) and a 26.3% K%. He also lines up for a two-start week. First in Boston, which is a bit scary but he then gets the much weaker Washington Nationals. This is a solid play if you are looking for volume over ratios. BID – 2-3%

    OF Henry Bolte (14%) – ATH – Bolte has been on fire lately and he gets all of his games in Sacramento this week. In his last 129 PA, he has four homers, two steals, 19 runs with a .304 average. He hits the ball hard with a 46.8% hard-hit rate but the ground balls will limit the power, some. And he has speed while batting a top of the lineup where some high scoring games will allow him to score more runs. BID – 3-5%

    1B, 2B, OF – Jeff McNeil (25%) – ATH – Another hot Athletics bat hitting in Sacramento all week. And his positional flex is pretty wonderful. He bats right behind Bolte so same counting stats advantage applies as he has four homers, five steals, 16 runs, 17 RBI and a .337 average over his last 105 games. But he is opposite of Bolte in terms of his batted ball profile. He doesn’t put the ball in the dirt but he also has weak hard contact. But he lifts and pulls the ball a ton and that is wonderful. BID 1-3%

    P Hayden Wesneski (32%) – HOU – He has been very successful in his return from Tommy John surgery and lines up for two starts next week. First is against a Phillies squad that has a 99 wRC+ vs. righties since the beginning of August followed by a much hotter Rays squad but that game in at the Trop and that will help him out. The Astros are also fighting to win and actually earn a playoff bye so if you are hunting wins, Wesneski is a solid play this week. BID – 2-3%

    OF Griffin Conine (9%) – MIA – I have been waiting for a week like this to recommend Conine. He is a strong-side platoon that has been on fire but it seems every week the Marlins face multiple lefties, making it hard to recommend him. But this week, only one lefty is on the schedule and now is the time to get in on this grave train. Over his last 102 plate appearances, he has hit five homers, stole two bags with a .253 average and a .233 ISO. BID – 3-4%
