In this piece, I will be discussing some batters who intrigue me on the free agent market that are owned in less than 50% of 15-team leagues in The Great Fantasy Baseball Invitational (TGFBI). If you are in a 12-team league or just a home fantasy baseball league, these might be players to keep an eye on, but not necessarily add right now. In addition, I will suggest bid ranges for these players based on the projected impact that I see them bringing to your team.
We have made it to the All-Star break, so it’s time to figure out what hitters can put your team over the top in the second half of the season!
Kris Bryant, COL 1B, OF (33% owned in TGFBI)
The oft-injured Bryant, 32, was activated off of the injured list after an oblique injury kept him out for almost two months. It’s been a struggle to stay on the field for Bryant since he signed a lucrative deal with the Rockies a couple of years ago, but there’s no denying the talent that he once was. This season has been a struggle for Bryant when he has been healthy, he’s hit .198 with a .595 OPS, and a 32% K rate, good for a lackluster 65 wRC+. This is entirely a speculation-based addition, as Bryant hasn’t even shown flashes of being a productive fantasy player since his 117 plate appearances in 2022. Here’s to hoping Bryant will find his stride in the second half of the 2024 season.
Verdict: Can’t expect him to be anything more than depth. ($5-15)
