How’d We Get Here?
The Sixers went through a nightmarish season as their most expensive, most important players missed most of the year due to injury. In the case of Joel Embiid’s injury, questions started popping up about his long-term future (more than usual), both in Philadelphia and on the court in general. A veteran-heavy roster missing Embiid and Paul George was cannon fodder for the rest of the league and the Sixers leaned into the tank, securing the No. 3 pick in the draft. The Sixers didn’t do much in the offseason after that and rookie VJ Edgecombe stands out as their top addition. The core of the roster remains and there’s only so much that Philly can do; if Embiid and George aren’t healthy, any changes are purely cosmetic.
Naturally, there are doubts that either Embiid or George will be ready for opening night.
