The COVID-19 pandemic threw the NBA schedule all out of whack, so this year we’ll be spending a little extra time getting to know the next wave of professional hoopers. It’s been a team effort, with JT McGahran, Zach Bodhane, Dio Nikiforos and Mike Passador all chipping in to help get you more familiar with a draft class that includes some potential fantasy studs.
We’ve been tracking mock drafts and the rumor mill for months to get you a brief overview of over 70 prospects that are on this year’s draft board. Enjoy!
Anthony EdwardsSG, CollegeTeam: Georgia
Consensus Rank: Top-3
Player Type: Combo Guard
Possible Landing Spots: MIN, GS, CHANotable 2019-20 Stats: 19.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists
General Comments: Athleticism and size will make him a versatile scorer on the wing, decent on-ball defender, has trouble guarding off the ball
Injury History: None
Fantasy/Dynasty Outlook: Shot selection and efficiency struggles may hold him back outside of points leagues early in his career, but in the right situation he should be able to contribute in counting stat categories off the bat. Solid late-round flier in redraft leagues and a must-roster, potential top-50 type dynasty prospect.
LaMelo BallPG, InternationalTeam: Illawarra Hawks, Australia NBL
Consensus Rank: Top-3
Player Type: Playmaker, pass-first guard
Possible Landing Spots: MIN, GS, CHA, interest from NYK and DETNotable 2019-20 Stats: 17.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, 6.8 assists
General Comments: 6’7”, lengthy ball handler with extraordinary vision, poor shot selection and mechanics in addition to lack of explosiveness could hold him back on offense, above average rebounding for a PG making him a consistent triple-double threat
Injury History: None
Fantasy/Dynasty Outlook: Should already be at the very least a solid source of assists and out-of-position rebounds immediately with the potential to develop into an across-the-board fantasy contributor. Efficiency from the floor and the line may be a struggle, which may hold back his overall ranking, but in the right build he is a top-25 upside dynasty prospect with a likely steady floor in the top-100.
James WisemanC, CollegeTeam: Memphis
Consensus Rank: Top-5
Player Type: Rim-runner
Possible Landing Spots: MIN, GS, CHA, CLENotable 2019-20 Stats: 19.7 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.0 blocks
General Comments: Elite size and athleticism, raw offensive game but can run the floor and will be best suited in PnR, can block just about anything at the rim, will be a double-double machine off his athleticism alone
Injury History: None
Fantasy/Dynasty Outlook: Physical tools give him one of the highest fantasy ceilings in this class. Unfortunately that comes along with having a pretty uncertain floor. Potential to become a top-25 type dynasty prospect at his absolute ceiling, but it is a gamble.
