Pickups of the Day for August 14th

  • The fantasy baseball playoffs are upon us in some cases, so let’s look at a three-pack of potential pickups to help you win your league (and forget about George Kirby’s last start for some):

    Kerry Carpenter – OF – DET – 45% Yahoo, 78% Fantrax

Kerry Carpenter returned from the injured list with a standout performance, signaling his readiness to contribute significantly to fantasy teams. In his first game back, Carpenter went 3-for-5 with two home runs against the Mariners, showcasing his power and elevating his season OPS to .962. This impressive return underscores Carpenter’s ability to impact games, especially considering his solid underlying metrics—a .380 xwOBA suggests his strong batting is backed by genuine skill. Despite being shielded from many left-handed pitchers, which has perhaps inflated some of his rate stats, Carpenter’s power stroke makes him an attractive pickup in most fantasy leagues. His 45% rostered rate on Yahoo contrasts sharply with a 78% rostering on Fantrax, indicating varying levels of availability and appreciation in different fantasy platforms.

For fantasy managers in need of outfield depth or a boost in power categories, Carpenter is a compelling addition. His recent performance, coupled with his potential for sustained production, makes him a valuable asset, particularly in leagues that lean towards power hitting. Just keep an eye on his at-bats and a potential platoon situation. He is worth a look in most leagues but especially in deeper formats.
