In today’s pickups, we have a starter who looks good coming back from Tommy John surgery, a bullpen arm about to take over the closer’s role for a top team and a bat who is getting overlooked by the vast majority of fantasy managers.
Tyler Mahle – SP – TEX – 22% Yahoo, 46% Fantrax
After only getting 25.2 innings in under his belt in 2023, he got Tommy John surgery and has been out until now. He has made two starts and has looked pretty good.
H has a 2.79 ERA with nine strikeouts in 9.2 innings to just four walks. In 2023, he started the year with a 3.16 ERA and a 3.23 xERA and 3.65 xFIP. While in 2022 he had an inflated ERA of 4.40, he had a 3.49 xERA.
Overall, his ERA and ERA estimators always seem to be around the 3.50-4.00 range between 2020-24.
He also has a strikeout rate between 25% and 28% in those years and he flashed very good swing and miss stuff in his last outing, earning 15 whiffs and a stellar 32% CSW.
While Mahle is not an elite arm, he is a solid middle-of-rotation arm in fantasy and needs to be given a look by 12-teamers as a stream and is a solid add in deeper formats
League size recommendation: 12-team league streamer, 14-team league add.
