Tuesday was a bad day for injury news, as fantasy GMs lost a couple of first-round picks for at least a week. With reevaluations next week, it means that Giannis Antetokounmpo (left knee bone bruise) and Anthony Edwards (right knee soreness) might be done for the rest of the fantasy season in head-to-head leagues.
Antetokounmpo’s situation is more dire as the Bucks are firmly out of the Play-In chase. A handful of losses will clinch their fate and it’s possible that they’re officially out of it before Antetokounmpo can return, in which case he shouldn’t return at all. Depending on where you’re at in your matchups/standings, a drop might have to be on the table.
As for Edwards, the Wolves are sitting him now in hopes of getting him right for the playoffs. That does mean that he’s expected to return, so roto managers can breathe a sigh of relief. Managers in head-to-head leagues don’t have quite the same luxury. For any leagues that end this upcoming weekend, Edwards is safe to drop. It’ll feel weird, but you have to do it. He might be worth holding onto in any leagues that end at the end of next week, but that will be up to the rest of your roster. You might get a couple of games out of Edward and while that would be a pretty great hammer to have, you have to get there to swing it.
The timing of these injuries is particularly brutal. Each team has some ready-made replacements — read on for those — but there’s no way fantasy GMs will get equivalent production, no matter how perfectly or aggressively you stream. Hopefully Wednesday brings better news.
Top Pickups
This is the “general must-add” section regardless of the slate. If these players are being overlooked and remain chilling on the waiver wire, consider adding them to your squad.
Bobby Portis (36%)
As has been the case since he first joined the Bucks, Portis is a solid choice in any fantasy league as soon as Giannis Antetokounmpo is out of the lineup. Well, look what we have here. Portis might come off the bench but the fact that he’s simply a better NBA player than Kyle Kuzma should guarantee a safe floor, and last night he ended up with 33 minutes. That resulted in 19 points (8-of-19 FG), nine rebounds, four assists, a steal and three 3-pointers. Add him where you can.
Ayo Dosunmu (25%)
