Today’s article has a decidedly National League East theme. That was not the initial intent, but it is just kind of how it worked out. Specifically, we are spotlighting three impact bats, all of which should be added, regardless of league size, for the final week of the season. Good luck to those managers still battling it out for their league’s trophy!
Dylan Crews – OF – WSH – 43% Yahoo
It has basically been a lost season for Crews. After suffering a left oblique strain back in May, the rookie was out for about three months with the injury, making a mid-August return. Unfortunately, even when the youngster’s been on the field this year, the results have not been great. For the season, he is slashing a mere .215/.287/.356 with just nine home runs in 303 plate appearances. Crews has managed to steal 17 bases, however, and it is that stolen base prowess that acts as the primary driver for the young outfielder’s recommendation in this space.
Crews is currently in the midst of a streak, hitting safely in each of his last six games, going 8-for-23 (.348) with four runs scored, three swipes, and a 127 wRC+ (up from his 81 wRC+ on the season). His on-base percentage during this time frame is .400, and if he continue to get on base regularly over this last week of the season, it is a good bet that the rookie will be able to use his 90th percentile sprint speed (29 mph) to swipe some bags for his managers. Add him in all leagues for the stolen base upside, and anything else the right-fielder provides is gravy.
