    Overview:

The Chiefs and Giants are both winless heading into Week 3’s SNF matchup, with both franchises trying to prevent an 0-3 start to the season. While that start may not kill the Chiefs’ season with some expected reinforcements in coming weeks, it would definitely be a tall hurdle for the Giants to overcome this season with Brian Daboll’s coaching job potentially on the line. The Chiefs lost a one-score game to the Eagles in Week 2, and the offense is super limited without their top two dynamic WRs. Thankfully, Xavier Worthy is nearing a return, but I would wait a game before he is making as big an impact as he is capable of. The Chiefs will have to go into the Meadowlands and earn their first victory on the season, but it won’t be all that easy. We watched the Cowboys break the Giants’ hearts in Week 2, but we watched New York unlock something in their offense against Dallas, as Russell Wilson threw for over 400 yards for just the fourth time in his career, finishing with 450 and three touchdowns in the OT loss. The two New York teams did a complete 180 in Week 2, and the Giants look like they have some fight in them and could make this game closer than we would’ve expected before the start of the season.

    Quarterbacks:

Patrick Mahomes is doing everything he can with the offense he’s left with after losing both Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy for different reasons. He’s seemingly relying on his legs more than he has in the past, through the first two weeks of the season. Averaging 61.5 yards and a touchdown across his first two games, it’s allowed him to hit ceilings he hasn’t hit in a long time, even if the passing game hasn’t been as explosive. It’s been a good minute since Mahomes has hurt his ankle again, and maybe he’s more willing and capable being so far removed from it. He has the time to throw with his improved OL, his receivers just can’t get open, but that means there’s still open areas on the field for him to attack on the ground. He’s finished as the fantasy QB6 in each of his first two games, and should be another top option at the position against a Giants defense that has been porous so far. After a rough Week 1 and a QB2 overall finish in Week 2, Russell Wilson has settled as the fantasy QB8 in the NFL after two weeks. Wilson’s success is going to hinder on the back of his deep ball, which should be there against the Chiefs’ secondary, but it’s a matter of whether Russ can get enough time in the pocket and navigate the pressures created by the rest of Steve Spagnuolo’s defense.

    Running Backs:

Isiah Pacheco continues to be a major disappointment for me this season, I was super high on the idea of him recapturing a workhorse role in the offense, given the extended period to recover and the competition in the running back room that I considered negligible. Pacheco led the team with 10 carries, but finished third on the team with 22 rushing yards and has been a virtual zero through two games this season, but this was a matchup against the Eagles, with Jalen Carter, that is. The Chiefs, though, love them some Kareem Hunt, and he continues to be the favored short-yardage back. This backfield is a complete avoid, but I might still hold onto Pacheco in case we see things start to go the other way in the next few weeks, but I would not argue against just dropping him outright for someone with more upside in a backfield with much less frustrating usage. Things are a lot more interesting in New York’s backfield, after we watched rookie Cam Skattebo make his presence felt with 13 touches for 59 yards and a touchdown, with some great highlights on the way. The flip of him over Tyrone Tracy Jr. as the lead back may already be happening, but this is a tougher matchup against Chris Jones and that Chiefs defensive front. He’s more of a high-end RB3 in this matchup, especially given his role increase isn’t quite a lock yet. One note is that he has been excellent at picking up the blitz as a pass-pro stalwart, which is often unheard of for a rookie RB, especially one his size. Either way, that skill will make him a valuable asset against Spagnuolo’s defense, and he may have earned a ton of snaps in this matchup.
