Four pitchers from two different teams make up this weekend’s streamers, taking advantage of the surprising availability of a couple top prospects, and a feeble offense at the bottom of the American League.
Friday
Jonah Tong – SP – NYM vs TEX – 44% rostered (Yahoo)
Tong’s first couple starts in the big leagues have been a bit of a mixed bag, combining some predictably impressive returns from his stuff with some inconsistent command in both starts. His last outing in Cincinnati was a strange one, where he allowed just three hits, but all of them home runs, in addition to four walks and six strikeouts over six innings. The stuff is certainly elite, but his command needs to improve, particularly with his secondaries, and if he does this against Texas, the returns could be huge. The Rangers have struggled offensively for most of the season, and are particularly poor against high IVB fastballs; Tong has the highest IVB fastball of any starter in the league. With these numbers comes a pair of small caveats, one being that half of the Rangers regular lineup is on the injured list, and the other that the replacement Rangers have significantly outperformed the regulars as of late, sweeping the Brewers with impressive offensive showings. The upside is still great enough for Tong in most formats, especially with a thin slate of streamers on Friday, and his staying power is significant with some better Mets’ matchups at the end of the season.
