Pickups of the Day for July 20th

  • We are in the thick of things now. With more than half the season over with, managers have to start to read the tea leaves more to try and get ahead of some potential breakouts. That is exactly what we have on today’s list. There is a bat that has some nice “under the hood” numbers that has started to heat up on the surface. A bullpen arm that is getting the call for multiple innings and late in ball games, plus a starting pitcher that is on a nice run that seems to be legit and should continue.

    Andrew McCutchen – OF – PIT – 8% Yahoo, 32% Fantrax

He started the second half where he left off. He had himself a nice four-game hitting streak with three doubles and a multihit effort and on Friday he went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a stolen base. He now is slashing .231/.334/.390 on year with 12 homers and 50 runs scored leading off for his team. Now the question becomes, can he keep it up?

Well, he is on the pickups article so, yes.

He has an xwOBA at .347 (79th percentile), an expected slugging at .454 (70th percentile), barrel rate at 12.05 (83rd percentile), and a launch angle/sweet spot at a solid 35.6% (63rd percentile).

For those leagues that count OBP, he walks at a 12.1% rate which is in the 91st percentile and that is backed up with a chase rate at 17.4% and that number is in the 99th percentile.

There is a great chance that this little streak of his is the beginning of something nice for fantasy managers so now is a great time to snag him off your wire.

    League size recommendation: 12-team leagues.
