Game Total 257Key Storylines
Tyrese Haliburton had his national television coming-out party against the Celtics on Monday evening. He had a 26-10-13 triple-double with five threes and a steal. It doesn’t get that much better than that, especially considering he and his Pacers were facing off against arguably the best team in the league. Other guys stepped up, including the struggling Bennedict Mathurin and Buddy Hield, who clowned the Mean Green Machine in the final minutes of the fourth and capped it off with a disrespectful unguarded trey at the buzzer. If you’re not a Celtics fan, you just have to love it.
Myles Turner is a second-tier big in real life and an elite one in fantasy, who has a similar game to the Bucks’ own starting five, Brook “Splash Mountain” Lopez. Neither are all that physical on either end, but they can both stretch the floor and protect the rim better than almost anyone else. It’ll be interesting to see how the two of them factor into tonight’s matchup.
Despite the Pacers currently having the best offense in NBA history, driven almost solely by Haliburton’s uptempo, yet measured style of play, Turner is practically the only dude they have who defends at a high level on a regular basis. That said, every player who saw the court on Monday at least put in a strong effort, which is not always the case. Regardless, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard should both have their way with this young squad and get wherever they want, whenever they want. Look for Malik Beasley to try to torch whoever is guarding him, like he’s been doing for weeks now. Hopefully, Khris Middleton plays more than 25 minutes tonight, but don’t necessarily count on it.
