Trae YoungPG, Atlanta HawksThe NBA and the NBPA announced an agreement on Tuesday evening for the eight teams that were not invited to the league’s restart to have voluntary group workouts at their facilities beginning in mid-September.
Since the NBA season was halted on March 11th, teams not on Disney’s campus have only been allowed individual-player workouts. The new plan has two phases where players and staff from each team will first go through daily COVID-19 tests (September 14 to September 20), with individual workouts continuing at team facilities, and then (September 21 through the end of the workouts on October 6th) teams will be cleared to hold group activities, including skills and conditioning sessions and intrasquad scrimmages. Each of the eight teams will be required to establish campuses in their home cities, including living arrangements for players and staff that separate them from the general population. Player participation in these offseason activities will be entirely voluntary and will include players who are under contract, plus up to five players who are not currently under contract with an NBA team but were part of the team’s G League affiliate this past season.
