Working the Waiver Wire: April 14th

  • With Tax Day on Tuesday, April 15th, let us look at a few players who could be long-term investments to replace those players whose stocks were high during draft season but have not given you the return on investment you were expecting. Audit your lineups and see if these players can pay dividends for your teams.

    Carson Kelly – CHC – C – 21% rostered (Yahoo)

Kelly appears to have taken over as the primary catcher for the Cubs, thanks to his hot bat. Looking back at the last 10 games, Kelly has started six of the 10 including two of the three games at the Dodgers this weekend. In Saturday’s game, Kelly went 3-for-3 with a pair of home runs. He is hitting .417 in 24 at bats with four home runs and 13 RBIs.

Kelly has had an up and down career, he hit 18 home runs in the happy fun-ball year in 2019, 13 homers and hit .240 in 2022 and had nine homers and 37 RBIS in 281 at bats in 2024. Kelly has shown good plate discipline so far in 2025, walking 10 times and striking out just three times. He sports a 63.6% hard-hit rate and 22.7%-barrel rate, both unsustainable, but pick him up in all two catcher leagues and ride the hot streak.
