• Uh oh, here comes fall! The calendar has turned to September and – right on schedule – cooler weather is on the way. This is welcome news for most people but not for our hitters! We should see the number of home runs and overall scoring slowly decrease for the rest of the season. This less-than-ideal trend for hitters commences this week as the southern U.S. cools off a little bit early in the week. The trend accelerates by the weekend when a stronger cold front brings much cooler air to the Midwest, Great Lakes and Northeast.

     

    Oddly enough, the focus of this week’s article is on the West Coast stadiums, particularly Southern California. Despite the cool down in much of the country, a late summer heat wave in the West will make some of this week’s best hitting conditions occur in Los Angeles, Anaheim and, gulp, Oakland! Poor San Fracisco is an exception, however, as they will still be chilly all week.

     

    So, with cooler weather coming to the East and a heat wave in the West, let’s see which games will give us the best – and worst – hitting conditions of the week:
