“The Dynasty Diamond”: April 22nd

  • For prospect hounds like myself, MLB Opening Day is almost an appetizer for what feels like the most exciting part of the season – the full kickoff of the MiLB action from Low-A all the way on up! Only fans of a handful of teams can truly convince themselves that their squad has a chance of bringing home some World Series hardware at year’s end but literally everyone has the chance to dream on an exciting farmhand one day turning into the team’s next superstar. Even though the hit rate on prospects is lower than the average fan believes, all it takes is one “out-of-nowhere” explosion for a player to turn themselves from back-up option to fantasy baseball icon.

The chances of some of the players below may be low but they’re above zero – and for some, quickly rising. Now is the time to throw some darts at players showing out early in the season before the rest of the sharks in the water catch on and gobble them up. After all, with players this young, their skillsets are far from concrete and can sometimes change overnight (for better or for worse).

With a few extra games now on their seasonal ledger, we’re starting to get a clearer picture of the top Triple-A performers, as well as seeing some early standouts in the lower levels. We even got exciting news yesterday with the announcement that Athletics’ top prospect Nick Kurtz will be getting the call for his MLB debut! Let’s dive on in.
