Free Agency has slowed to a crawl but our Free Agency Rundown series continues unabated.

We’re back after an exceedingly quiet week that was headlined by the NBA’s continued feet-dragging on the Aspiration scandal investigation and the Bucks doing the most obvious cap circumvention since the Aspiration scandal. Some of the trades and signings out there have yet to be made official as teams expand their deals to be as favorable as possible. At this point, with a couple notable exceptions, we’re mostly waiting for minor end-of-roster signings and new two-way contracts as Summer League rolls on. There are also going to be some signings that the insiders didn’t get to so it’s important to stay on your toes and follow along both here and in the blurb feed.

It’s an exciting time of year as all 30 teams are plotting their course for next season. Fans whose teams have been out of it for a long time are locked back in after the draft and every single squad will be making some moves to shake up the roster. It’s a fresh start for everyone in the league and a time when hope is renewed no matter where you finished last season.

Naturally, all that player movement is doubly exciting to fantasy basketball players, as each transaction creates fun new alignments while creating the potential for sleeper values all over the place.

It’s important to remember that no team is even close to being a finished product at this point. Moves get made that create depth chart imbalance, which requires more moves to be made. Things will continue to change and so will fantasy outlooks. Don’t expect the Blazers to enter the season with all those guards, for example — but if they do, get ready for some headaches. The rosters you see in the immediate aftermath of trades and signings are not necessarily what you’ll see on opening night.

The goal of this exercise is to give you running thoughts and live fantasy analysis of all the moves that get made. We’ll need to wait and see how rotations look and how coaches scheme around all their shiny new toys but you’ll be getting our first impressions of every transaction. Get excited — basketball is just around the corner again, already.

Three-Team Trade: Lu Dort & Ryan Nembhard to Hawks, Zaccharie Risacher to Mavs, three second-round picks (& cap relief) to Thunder

Lu Dort (ATL): Dort is likely either going to come off the bench in Atlanta or be a starter in the 24-to-27 MPG range. His fantasy appeal is not great since it is “technically” just 3-and-D value but his 3-point shot is quite inconsistent and his style of defense doesn’t generate as many steals and blocks as some other players’ defense. If a player like Nickeil Alexander-Walker is “demoted” to the bench for Dort, you can likely expect that he will still play 30-plus MPG as a sixth man.

Ryan Nembhard (ATL): He is going to be the third-string point guard behind CJ McCollum and Kingston Flemings, while obviously players like Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Jalen Johnson and Dyson Daniels will also be running offense. Nembhard should be a fantasy afterthought barring an injury crisis or blowout situation.

Zaccharie Risacher (DAL): The No. 1 pick of the 2024 NBA Draft gets to start over. Risacher has had a complicated two seasons. He played 75 games (24.6 MPG) as a rookie, averaging 12.6 points, 1.6 triples (35.5%), 3.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.5 blocks. However, in his second season, his place in the rotation shrunk as the season progressed, eventually falling out of it entirely. He averaged 9.6 points, 1.4 triples (36.8%), 3.8 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.5 blocks in 22.4 MPG (67 games). Risacher finds a new home in Dallas to try to turn around his career, but it is hard to imagine that he plays much more than he did on a game-to-game basis even if he has a consistent rotation place. Risacher wasn’t a great fantasy contributor in Atlanta, and may only be worth a look in deeper leagues in Dallas unless he has an unforeseen breakout without the pressure to perform as the No. 1 pick.

Thunder: Perhaps the biggest fantasy implication occurs in Oklahoma City. With a vacant starting spot, Cason Wallace should be the projected starter as the replacement point-of-attack defender. He shot well from three during the NBA playoffs, but isn’t necessarily proven to be a good high-volume shooter over the course of the regular season, while also providing solid secondary ball-handling and connectivity during the playoffs. Wallace’s steals give him a strong one-cat fantasy baseline as a specialist for 12-team leagues, but if his offense rounds out, he could become a more secure 12-team option who isn’t just a specialist. Ajay Mitchell should also get a boost, and some may even argue that he should start, but certainly he has an easier path to consistent 12-team production even if it is just as a sixth man, as his 2025-26 season generally consisted of some up-and-down runs that did balance out to top-110 9-cat value per game in the end. Jared McCain will have fans, but should be the unlikeliest option of these three to actually start games regularly. At the very least, he should be a deep-league source of threes.

Moussa Cisse signs two-year offer sheet with Knicks…
Mavs have until Monday @ 11:59 p.m. ET to match…

ESPN’s Shams Charania revealed that the salary is half-guaranteed in 2026-27 and non-guaranteed in 2027-28. Cisse made some noise with the Mavs last season while on a two-way contract, but it looks like he has a chance for a standard deal in New York. The Knicks have lost some center depth behind Karl-Anthony Towns, currently relying on the recently-signed Andre Drummond. In New York, Cisee may have a chance to challenge for a backup role as an energy big who provides typical big-man stats and that could be wonderful for his fantasy appeal, primarily in deep leagues. Dallas could match to keep the 23-year-old around if they want to trade Daniel Gafford, but Morez Johnson Jr. can also be a center even if Dereck Lively II isn’t healthy and the Mavs have a few PF options who can slide down as small-ball centers too.

Cisse averaged 5.7 rebounds, 0.5 steals, 1.2 blocks and 4.5 points (.574 FG%, .469 FT%) in only 13.9 MPG throughout 38 appearances with the Mavs last season.

Update: Mavs match Knicks’ two-year, $4.7 million offer sheet for Moussa Cisse

As stated above, the salary is half-guaranteed in 2026-27 and non-guaranteed in 2027-28. Cisse faces a much more crowded frontcourt rotation in Dallas, making this a move with “less fantasy implications,” but they are reportedly trying to ship out Daniel Gafford and PJ Washington via trade. Still, at best, Cisse might be the backup big man in certain moments since Morez Johnson Jr. is a very capable center himself (despite mainly playing at PF in college), even if Dereck Lively II continues to face injury concerns.

NBA investigating Gary Trent Jr.’s four-year, $64 million contract with Bucks after official signing announced

As a reminder, Trent just had the worst season of his career since he was a rookie, averaging 8.1 points (.387 FG%, .769 FT%), 1.9 triples (.360 3P%), 1.0 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 0.5 steals in 21.2 MPG across 65 appearances in 2025-26. The four-year, $64 million contract is fully guaranteed with no options — which is a bit odd after Trent signed a one-year, $2.6 million vet minimum with the Bucks in the 2024 offseason and then a two-year, $7.5 million contract with a player option in the 2025 offseason, which he opted out of ahead of the 2026 free agency. Trent had reportedly turned down a multi-year, $15 million per year extension from the Raptors back in 2023-24, seeking more money on the open market, but his options dried up before taking an undervalued deal with the Bucks (in 2024), seemingly seeking to prove his worth by contributing to a potential contender. Given the timeline of events, there could be allegations of cap circumvention here via a prearranged agreement, which could’ve resulted in the seemingly exorbitant deal Trent got this offseason that exceeds his market value considerably after his on-court struggles in 2025-26. Of course, nothing has been proven yet, and for fantasy, Trent was only a deep-league player last season. Therefore, any punishment if the suspicions are proven to be true should not impact most fantasy managers. It might just be a contract termination that forces Trent to sign elsewhere, if he doesn’t face a suspension, but it would be one backcourt player removed from a crowd of options in Milwaukee and that could help other players indirectly. Again, we simply won’t know until the NBA provides a follow-up.
