• In this piece, I will be discussing some batters who intrigue me on the free agent market that are owned in less than 50% of 15-team leagues in The Great Fantasy Baseball Invitational (TGFBI). If you are in a 12-team league or just a home fantasy baseball league, these might be players to keep an eye on, but not necessarily add right now. In addition, I will suggest bid ranges for these players based on the projected impact that I see them bringing to your team.

There are some up-and-coming young players in addition to some repeat offenders on this week’s FAAB report. Let’s dive in!

Joey Loperfido, HOU OF (45% owned in TGFBI)

Loperfido, 25, was called up on Friday for his second stint in the major leagues after registering 43 plate appearances earlier this season. So far this year, Loperfido has absolutely crushed AAA pitching – he’s hit .272 with a .933 OPS in 189 plate appearances, clubbing 13 home runs and stealing nine bases. In the majors, Loperfido has hit .348 with one home run and one steal, but his batting average is inflated due to a highly unsustainable .577 BABIP and a worrisome 38% K rate. Many projections seem to think Loperfido finishes his rookie year with a wRC+ in the mid-90s and a batting average around .230, so he could be ownable if the Astros commit to playing him.

Verdict: Depth with a good prospect pedigree, playing time uncertain when Kyle Tucker returns soon. ($10-20)
