Fantasy Football: Second-Year WR Breakouts for the 2026/2027 Season

  • It’s always better to be early than late when it comes to fantasy.  If you had gone all-in on the Bears last season, you probably would have won most of your leagues.  Trends are fleeting and often by the time you hear about them from your buddy, the value has been oversaturated.  Fantasy is often cyclical and what once was can be again.  This is true with WRs as we are in the absolute apex of the rookie WR revolution.  There is no more tried and true breakout than the sophmore WR.  Everyone wants them and the price on draft day always seems to keep going up, but yet there is still value every season.  The trick is picking the right one.  Everyone wants to be in on the next guy and sometimes we forget about the player we used to love just last season.   This article will look at some sophomore WRs who are worth the hype.

    Tetaroia McMillian, Panthers

    Consensus Rank: WR15, ADP: 32,

McMillan was the WR15 and has superstar written all over him in ink and blood.  He was elite nearly topping 1,100 receiving yards on 126 targets. The rookie standout commanded elite volume immediately, finishing with a 23% target share and massive 41% air yards.  There is no doubt that he’s a true alpha WR1, but it takes two to tango.  McMillan only scored in one game through the first 10 weeks and the volatility of the CAR offense remains a massive issue.  The Panthers haven’t had 25 passing TDs in any of the last five seasons and it’s hard to expect any breakthroughs coming now.  They had a top-10 run/pass split, middle of the pack in WR targeting (60%), but 27th in PPG.  The CAR offense might be who it is at this point as long as Bryce Young is under center.  McMillan on a different team would potentially be a first-round pick, but Young is his biggest obstacle to joining the upper echelon.  The good news is there is another threat to usurp targets as the Xavier Legette was the closest with 64 targets.  If you believe in Young as a QB1, then draft McMillan early, but for now, he’s being drafted closer to his ceiling than his floor in my opinion.

    Emeka Egbuka, Buccaneers

    Consensus Rank: WR19, ADP: 42
