How’d We Get Here?
After a league-shaking and fan-infuriating trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Lakers, the Mavs were blessed by the lottery gods and landed the No. 1 overall pick. With Cooper Flagg now set to lead the next era of Mavs ball, Dallas turned in a fairly quiet offseason otherwise. Kyrie Irving’s ACL injury means he’ll miss a good portion of the season, and the Mavs brought in D’Angelo Russell to help hold the line and add some shooting punch. Other than that, it was re-signing Daniel Gafford — adding to the frontcourt glut — and Dante Exum. The Mavs’ hasty retool begins in earnest and the roster is still a bit of an imbalanced mess, but at least they have Flagg to build around whatever comes next.
