Thursday brings just two games, and that makes it one of the best opportunities of the week to gain an advantage in your fantasy matchup. Orlando visits Phoenix before Miami takes on Golden State, with both games featuring teams facing very different questions early in the season.
The Magic entered the year expecting to compete near the top of the Eastern Conference, but injuries and inconsistent offensive production have left them searching for answers. Phoenix has problems of its own, particularly on defense, where the Suns have been the worst team in the NBA through the opening two weeks.
Golden State, meanwhile, has turned an 0-3 start into a five-game winning streak. Stephen Curry is playing some extraordinary basketball, and the Warriors’ younger players are beginning to provide the kind of supporting production that was missing last season.
The waiver wire is also getting interesting. Several players have moved into bigger roles because of injuries, and the latest performances from Quenton Jackson, Karlo Matkoviฤ and Isaiah Stewart are giving fantasy managers plenty to think about.
But not every impressive box score tells the full story. Some of these opportunities could last for weeks, while others might disappear as soon as the next injured starter returns. And with only four teams playing Thursday, there’s a good argument for prioritizing a useful streamer over a speculative longer-term addition if you’re trying to win this week’s matchup.
