How’d We Get Here?
The Clippers had another postseason flameout and despite Steve Ballmer’s limitless checkbook, they opted not to max out Paul George and used Kawhi Leonard’s below-max extension as their internal cap. They did re-sign James Harden but used George’s vacated money to spread the wealth, adding some depth with Derrick Jones Jr., Kris Dunn, Nic Batum and Kevin Porter Jr. joining the wing group. Kawhi Leonard’s health looms over everything the organization does but they’ve taken a new team-building philosophy into battle to see if that can help Leonard stay healthy or help lessen the blow when he does inevitably miss time. The Clippers are heading to a new building and will certainly be different if nothing else.
