The economic uncertainty of the pandemic is among the reasons that make sense for DeMar DeRozan to opt in at nearly $28 million in the final season of a $139 million, five-year contract he signed with the Raptors back in 2016, but the veteran guard hasn't decided about it yet.

The Spurs finished with a losing record for the first time since 1996-97, the year Gregg Popovich replaced Bob Hill and not long before the club drafted Tim Duncan. San Antonio went 5-3 in the bubble after Pop made it clear going in that he considered the playoffs a long shot and wanted to focus on the development of Dejounte Murray, Derrick White, Lonnie Walker IV and 20-year-old Keldon Johnson who averaged 14.1 points in these eight games. DeRozan just turned 31 and looks like an odd fit for the young group of Spurs but it looks likely that he will pick up his option for next year.
