San Francisco 49ers vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

This has game of the week vibes as the Jags are rolling the Niners need to get back on track.  Something has to give this week and it’s easy to make a case for either team.  The Niners have lost three in a row after starting 5-0 and have seen their defense regress while Brock Purdy has looked more like a pumpkin than a Cinderella story.  Both teams are pretty healthy for this point in the season and the Niners are even getting Deebo Samuel back which gives the offense an entirely more dangerous dimension.  The Niners also added Chase Young at the deadline and he could be just the edge-rushing force that will revitalize the defensive unit that just allowed Bengals to run roughshod over them.

Main Storylines to Watch

Find the Hole: The Jags have often been a talented team that has historically been unbalanced on one side of the ball.  The hoopla this offseason was the leap the offense was going to make, but it’s the defense that has really been carrying the load this season.  The Jags are 4-0 vs. teams with a winning record and it’s the fact they are now a complete team without a weakness that acts as their armor.

Selling Brock Stock: The defense has been an issue recently, but the core issue is that Brock Purdy can’t stop throwing interceptions.  He’s got five over the last three games and not coincidentally all were losses.  The Niners have only scored 17 points in each of the last three games after scoring at least 30 in the first five games.  It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see what needs to change.
