49ers 10, Bears 19 (Bears covered +7, U 40.5)
The story of this game has to be the torrential downpour that went on prior to kickoff as well as in the second half. There was a brief period of dry weather that Justin Fields and the Bears took advantage of in the third quarter while the 49ers couldn’t take advantage of their dominance early in the first half. After putting up 10 straight points to start the game, the Bears came back and scored 19 unanswered to defy the odds and go 1-0 to start the year.
49ers
QB
Trey Lance was one of the hottest late-round QBs out there during draft season because of his rushing ability. Dual-threat QBs have changed the fantasy landscape because of the four-point scoring per passing touchdown vs. six points for a rushing TD. However, Lance disappointed in Sunday’s contest, failing to score a single touchdown and racking up fewer than 10 total fantasy points despite rushing for 54 yards. While the rain can explain part of the story, Lance was downright outplayed by Justin Fields on the other side of the ball and needs to perform better than 13-for-28 for 164 yards and one interception for a 50.3 QB rating if he wants to prevent the questions of the possibility of Jimmy Garoppolo once again as the starter.
WR
Brandon Aiyuk was on track for a really good fantasy performance after recording two catches for 40 yards early in the first half, but he was shut out from that point on and had a third catch called back because of offensive interference. Jauan Jennings surprisingly finished with the best receiving line (4-of-6, 62, 0) while Deebo Samuel only caught two of his team-high eight targets for 14 yards but scored the team’s only touchdown on the ground. The 52 rushing yards on eight carries displays just how safe of an option Deebo is for fantasy.
TE
With George Kittle out with a groin injury, Tyler Kroft and Ross Dwelley, but they combined for just 20 yards on 2-of-4 catches and no touchdowns. Kittle is the only 49ers TE worth starting for fantasy purposes.
