Fantasy Recap: Week 5 Early Slate 1

  • Steelers 3, Bills 38 (Bills covered -14, U45.5)

    Key Postgame Stories

As expected, the Bills ran away with this game from the start. The Bills muffed the opening kickoff and ended up with a 3rd-and-long from their own 2-yard-line, when Josh Allen hit Gabe Davis on a post route for a massive 98-yard score. The Steelers proceeded to fumble the ball away on the following kickoff and the game was over from there.  The Bills had a bundle of excellent fantasy performances, while the Steelers were far from fantasy relevant.

    Top Performers

Josh Allen: Allen was on pace to absolutely shatter the single-game passing record, but with the Steelers being completely inept on offense, they slowed things down and eventually put in the backups.  Finishing as the QB1 on the week, Allen scored 36.5 fantasy points from a whopping 424 yards passing, including four touchdowns and one interception.  He also added 42 yards with his legs.

Stefon Diggs & Gabe Davis: As per usual, Diggs and Allen were locked in, but Davis also joined the party in this contest.  Diggs caught 8-of-11 targets for 102 yards, finding the end zone once.  Diggs is the WR2 through five weeks of the season and turned in another top-10 performance, finishing eighth in Week 5. Davis hauled in two long-bomb touchdowns, racking up three receptions for 171 yards and two scores. He comfortably finished as the WR1 on the week in PPR formats.

    Biggest Busts

Devin Singletary & Najee Harris:  Both running backs were surprisingly terrible options in this matchup.  With a game script of a blowout, it’s surprising that the Bills didn’t hammer the ball on the ground with a massive lead, while the Steelers did not utilize many check-downs either.  Singletary finished the game with a sad six rushes for 42 yards, adding one reception for four yards.  Harris, on the other hand, was somehow worse.  He finished with 29 yards on 11 attempts, accompanying three receptions for 16 yards.  Both backs are very hard to trust at this point of the season
