Note on the FAAB recommendations – We are at a point where some of you might be real low on FAAB. So if you really want some of the players I recommend, I would say a good rule is to make sure you have roughly $10 left over the rest of the year and bid accordingly (roughly four more FAAB runs in roto, less in H2H’s). That way you have some leftover for potential injury replacements to finish off the year. But now is also not the time to hoard your FAAB.
In order of roster% –
12-TEAM LEAGUES (YAHOO ROSTER%)
OF Walker Jenkins (20%) – MIN – I am a sucker for prospects that show good all-around tools to go with upside. If you lost your bids on Joshua Baez (that’s looking like a good L…. for now) then Jenkins isn’t a bad 2nd option at all. In Triple-A, he hit 14 homers with 17 steals in 324 plate appearances with a 15.6% K%, 13.7% BB%, .224 ISO and 142 wRC+. Power, speed, good hit tool, what’s not too like? BID – All of it, saving $5.
P Gage Jump (14%) – ATH – Jump has a two start week with both starts outside of Sacramento and in pitcher friendly parks like Texas and Seattle? OH BABY! On the road, Jump has a 3.49 ERA (3.58 xFIP) and a 26.4% K%. He is a must add this week. BID – 3-5%
OF Heriberto Hernandez (17%) – MIA – I had him pegged as a second half breakout and I have had him listed in this space a few times. Well the breakout is here and if you listened to me, you’re welcome. He has six homers, 15 RBI, two steals and a .233 ISO. Yeah, the average is .233 but that, at the very least, won’t hurt you so much and a .264 BABIP is bound to get a little better. BID – 3-8%
P Clay Holmes (49%) – CHC – Hopefully he has been scooped up but just in case, he has a two start week next week against the Brewers and Marlins, neither offense is elite. Holmes’ ground ball approach with the leagues best defense behind him as yielded a 1.96 ERA as a Cub with a 0.96 WHIP. He won’t strike many out but he is way better than his 11.4% K%. BID – 3-5%
2B, 3B Pedro Ramirez (9%) – CHC – Since Dansby Swanson went down, Ramirez has gotten a full time role. And now is the time get in him. In 187 plate appearances this year, he has a slash of .292/.355/.446 with four homers, seven steals, 28 runs and 24 RBI. He has a 17.6% K%, 8.6% BB% to show a mature approach and ability to make contact. He pulls and lifts the ball enough to help over come some lackluster quality of contact metrics as he should provide a solid average and steals as a floor with some power to boot – 2-6%
