This one is a bit funky since Week 8 didn’t offer too many changes to the landscape. That said, there are always many things to talk about for fantasy so that isn’t going to stop me.

As always here is a reminder of the differences in the scoring systems for ESPN Standard Points Leagues and Yahoo Standard Points Leagues.

Of course, we have a new format, which is Yahoo’s “High Score.”

The High Score System is: 
Points = 1 fantasy point each
Rebounds = 1 fantasy point each
Assists = 2 fantasy points each
Steals = 3 fantasy points each
Blocks = 3 fantasy points each

As a general rule: 

ESPN Standard Scoring will give a slight boost to players who are more efficient and get more defensive stats in addition the usual volume stats we want in points leagues.

Yahoo Standard Scoring will give a very slight boost to good rebounders and players who are high-volume offensive engines, even if they are inefficient, but turnovers still come at a cost.

High Score takes leaning into offensive volume at a higher level, meaning players who take a bunch of shots and get a ton of assists are greatly rewarded with absolutely no hits for inefficiency or turnovers.

Points League Adds

Since the previous week was a light one, there aren’t many new names to talk about here for me. I will clean up some things I said in the last edition though.

Jay Huff (ESPN, Yahoo)

So, I am not in a Yahoo Points League so anyone there can check for themselves. I did add Huff in my ESPN Points League on November 29. I am looking at his game logs while typing this and he these are his fantasy points:

37, 33, 38, 57, 13, 35, 47 and then in the game before I added him he had 40 fantasy points.

I’ve pinpointed before that around 30 fantasy points (roughly equal to top-90ish to top-100ish player) is what I view as a must-roster player in a 12-team points league on ESPN. On Yahoo you can shave off one or two fantasy points. Huff is must-roster.

The ESPN scoring system suits hit a bit more with the high values for defensive stats and additional fantasy points for threes, but he is surely passing the test for Yahoo as well. According to my excel spreadsheet, Huff is averaging 35.5 fantasy points on ESPN in the past two weeks and 30.27 fantasy points on Yahoo. That is enough on Yahoo to be added.
