Every week I will do a quick drive thru of the all the games and cover the relevant fantasy points. I will look at things that might be fluky or here to stay and try and point everyone in the right direction for the future. We never want to overreact to a small-sample size, but sometimes getting in too early is still better than missing the boat entirely.
Seahawks 23 – Cardinals – 20
This was classic terrible Kyler Murray for the first half as he had negative fantasy points until then. He turned it around in a hurry and finished with 20, but it’s a tale of two Kylers once again. His rushing floor makes him fantasy viable, but he’s about as volatile as any QB in the league. At least he finally got Marvin Harrison Jr. going with six for 66 yards and a score. At least and Trey McBride are getting 10+ targets a game, but I worry about their ability to both pop in the same game. This was supposed to be the Trey Benson breakout with James Connor sidelined, but SEA has a very good rush defense and Benson was mostly held in check with 35 rushing yards and five grabs for 19 yards. The real thorn was Emari Demecardo getting the work at the end of the game. Demercardo is a solid stash, but Benson will get back on track in Week 5. Sam Darnold (242/1/0) was good but not great on Thursday Night Football. He’s still worth a stash with his 70% completion rating on the season, but he’s mostly just hyper-targeting Jaxon Smith-Njigba who was quiet until the second half where he went for four for 79. We saw Kenneth Walker III (19/81/0) outpace Zach Charbonnet (12/39/2) in touches, but not in TDs, but hopefully that isn’t a trend. Walker is clearly the more explosive back and Charbonnet is mostly being used to keep the burden off Walker’s body.
Pickup of the game: RB – Emari Demercado – Priority Low as a stash
Steelers 24 – Vikings – 21
The Steelers keep escaping with wins despite being outgained 150 yards in the passing game and 61 yards on the ground. Winning is winning though. Aaron Rodgers is just good enough to start in real life, but not in fantasy, not even in Super Flex leagues. The big story was Jaylen Warren sitting and Kenneth Gainwell getting to try on his RB1 clothes for once. Gainwell (19/99/2) was great, but it’s unlikely that Warren misses much time and with PIT on a bye in Week 5, Gainwell is back to being a stash, but at least one with upside we have seen. You don’t want to start any WR or TE on the Steelers other than D.K. Metcalf. Calvin Austin III (2/12/0) left the game with an injury and Metcalf was great with only five grabs, but he took them for 126 yards and a score. Carson Wentz has dialed it back and looks great in this turn-key system. He went for 350 yards and while he made mistakes with two INTs, he also delivered two TDs and found Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison open all day. They combined for 240 yards on 14 receptions, but neither found the end zone which was almost impossible for Addison on a 81 yard scamper. Jordan Mason was held in check with only 57 yards and this might be his worst performance of the season. Wentz is a must-start player in Super Flex leagues and borderline QB1 in the right matchup.
Pickup of the game – none
Giants 21 – Chargers 18
The headline is Malik Nabers tearing his ACL and everything after that is just noise. This might have ruined your fantasy season, but not mine because I kinda of saw this coming with his insane usage, smaller frame and litany of injuries this summer. Cam Skattebo (25/79/0) did everything but get a TD in Week 4 and he’s looking great in this new offense. Congrats if you drafted him, but it’s Jaxson Dart who might be swinging leagues or at least was before Nabers went down. The Giants were a one-man band and I have no idea what they are now. Wan’Dale Robinson gets a big bump, but it’s Darious Slayton who should grab on the wire. I’m not sure I want to invest in this team without Nabers stretching the field. Justin Herbert (203/1/2) had a tough day on the road in New York in Week 4. He threw 23/41 + 1 TD and 1 INT. It was pretty brutal; he was under pressure all day and with LAC losing Joe Alt, it might not get better soon. Omarion Hampton led the way with the rookie RB revolution and went for 128 yards on 12 carries plus a score with another five grabs for 37 yards. Ladd McConkey (1/11/0) continues to disappoint fantasy owners; he remains a SELL candidate to whomever will oblige. Keenan Allen (5/37/0) wasn’t amazing, but look for him to bounce back in Week 5 as well. He has a ticking clock though and won’t stay healthy all season. Week 4 was the only week he hasn’t recorded a TD; still, he has a massive role in this offense. Quentin Johnston (8/98/1) continues his revenge tour! He might be the WR1 on this high-powered team, which is pretty crazy.
Pickup of the game – WR – Darius Slayton – Priority minimum
Texans 26 – Titans 0
We can do the Titans real quick. No one is a must-start and you can almost drop everyone except Tony Pollard and Calvin Ridley. I wouldn’t even play Ridley. Pollard is fine and gets yards, but if this team can’t score a RB without TDs is almost worthless. The whole team is a bench until they show some competence, don’t wait on it, act now. C.J. Stroud got his first win of the season against a bad Titans roster; it’s progress, but not a statement. He had a nice day, recording two passing TDs for 233 passing yards by finding Nico Collins four times for 79 yards. Love me some Nico. The story is Woody Marks, out-carrying Nick Chubb 17-13 and breaking through for one TD on the ground and another through the air on four grabs for 50 yards. Pick him up, spend whatever it takes, but buyer beware the HOU o-line is still a nightmare. Chubb might be toast and you can stash him in deeper leagues, but he needs a miracle on this team.
Pickup of the game – RB – Woody Marks – Priority Maximum
Falcons 34 -Commanders 27
The Falcons are back, let’s go. Michael Penix Jr. put on a show with 20/26 for 313 yards with two passing TDs and 1 INT. The Commanders are vulnerable through the air, but Penix was letting fly finally and hit London early for a bomb. London finally showed out with eight grabs for 110 and a score. The Falcons are on a bye, so we have to wait another week, but congrats if you kept the faith. The one we never have to worry about is Bijan Robinson, who went (17/75/1) plus four grabs for another 106 yards. He’s the best dual-threat RB in the game, I said it. Kyle Pitts showed why we can never quit him five grabs for 70 yards and a score. Darnell Mooney got hurt, so if he misses time, you can probably drop him, but too bad. Marcus Mariota (156/2/1) was okay, but we knew he couldn’t play two great games in a row and he barely ran in this one with only two carries for 20 yards. Hopefully, Jayden Daniels is back soon as this offense needs him. The WAS RB room remains messy as . Chris Rodriguez Jr. recorded seven carries for 59 yards, while Jacory Croskey-Merritt also recorded seven carries, but with 47 rush yards and last week’s star Jeremy McNichols only saw two carries. It’s a full blown committee and I wouldn’t start any of them next week. Deebo Samuel had the third-most carries and he’s the only real winner in this injury-riddled team as he led WAS in receptions and yards while also scoring. This team is a stayaway until Daniels returns and then we still need to see it a week.
Pickup of the game – None
Bills 31 – Saints 19
The Bills did just enough to secure the win, but it was clear they didn’t really get out of first gear. Josh Allen only threw 22 times and it was good enough for two scores plus another one on the ground. He’s the best even when he’s barely trying. James Cook is a beast and is on pace to crush last season’s breakout, he finished with 117 yards on the ground plus a score. The holdout from the summer seems like a faded memory. Khalil Shakir (5/69/1) feels like the only other safe start outside of Cook and Allen; Kincaid should be in this category as well, but it’s tough to say after this week although he did score. The Saints are playing at a crazy high pace, but it’s not really paying dividends yet. Spencer Rattler (126/1/0) was able to keep the Saints in the game for most of the match, but it wasn’t enough to keep pace. Alvin Kamara (15/70/0) was an average fantasy start in Week 4, recording just 11 fantasy points and it was backup RB Kenzie Miller who found the end zone on one of his 11 carries. He was actually more efficient than Kamara with a 5.9 to 4.7 YPC. Chris Olave (3/20/1), Juwan Johnson (3/28/0) are also decent options Rashid Shaheed (4/47/0) each week as this NO team will be playing from behind in nearly every game. The problem is the ball isn’t getting past the line of scrimmage and you are heavily reliant on PPR to get fantasy value.
Pickup of the game – None
