Pickups of the Day for August 25th

  • As August winds down, I will look at two veteran outfielders playing well and a rookie pitcher who is racking up strikeouts.

David Peralta, OF, Padres (8% rostered on CBS, 13% rostered on Yahoo)

Peralta, the 37-year-ol outfielder, has had a resurgence in August for the Padres, hitting .355 (22-for-62) with four home runs, 13 RBIs, 12 runs and a stolen base.  Since being recalled from the minors in late May, he is hitting .277 for the season with six homers, 23 RBIs, 26 runs and two steals. He has recorded a hit in every game but two in which he started in August. He has started all but four games in August, sitting against left-handed starters. The Padres are scheduled to face all right-handed starting pitchers over the next week so he should be considered an add in most leagues.

League size recommendation: 12-team leagues, five-outfield leagues
