We are back with mid-week waiver pickups to help you down the stretch and in the playoffs. This week, we have a couple of top prospects and a new closer in LA.
Coby Mayo – 3B – BAL – 16% Yahoo, 64% Fantrax
Coby Mayo has become one of the most exciting prospects in baseball, with a recent surge at Triple-A Norfolk that’s too loud to ignore. In his last 70 games there, he is hitting .311 with 22 home runs and 62 RBI. These are the kind of stats that scream major league readiness. A top-five prospect in dynasty formats, Mayo’s return to action after a rib injury earlier in the season hints at his potential. His recent performance indicates that he’s not just recovered from his injury but has also refined his approach at the plate, mastering Triple-A pitching in the process. The Orioles might keep him down in the minors a bit longer for service time considerations, aiming for a late August call-up to preserve his eligibility for the 2025 AL Rookie of the Year award. For fantasy managers, Mayo represents an ideal stash candidate with upside. In Baltimore’s hitter-friendly environment, there is potential he could hit .280 with 25-30 home runs in a full season. If you have room on your roster and can afford to wait for his call-up, Mayo could be a game-changing addition for the fantasy playoffs and beyond.
