When looking at waiver-wire pick ups, we are always looking for rest of season value. In mid-June, it is starting to get harder and harder as the hot pickups are now heavily rostered. If you missed out on the Heliot Ramos’ of the world, don’t you fret. This is baseball and we have so many games left for your waiver wire additions to pay off for you in the long run. Today, I bring you three names and each of them are available in the vast majority of Yahoo leagues.
Brandon Marsh – OF – PHI – 25% Yahoo, 49% CBS
As of this writing, the most recent news on his injury was that he may just need the one rehab start on Friday and will be good to go on Saturday. Regardless if it happens Saturday, Sunday, or even a day or two later, Marsh needs to be on rosters as he is going to be back very, very soon.
Before the injury, he was on pace for around 18-20 bombs, 22-25 steals and was batting .265 with a SLG% of .426. That SLG% is a bit low as his xSLG% is about 30 points higher at .458. He has has elite marks in:
- xwOBA – .356
- avgEV – 92.1
- Hard-Hit rate – 51.8% (93rd percentile)
- Launch angle sweet spot – 45.5% (99th percentile)
- Chase rate – 21.5%
- Walk rate – 11.3%
The walk rate more than makes up for the awful strikeout rate as he does have a solid whiff rate at 23.0%, just about league average.
All signs point to Marsh be a very good 5-category asset. There is no way he should remain so lightly rostered in Yahoo. Go get this man, now.
League size recommendation: 12-teams and beyond
