Despite their place in the standings, the Bucks have looked sick all season long, so the puppet masters of Cream City kicked rookie head coach, Adrian Griffin, to the curb and called the offices of Dr. Glenn Rivers. Unfortunately, this doctor is kind of like one of those old dudes you see at the urgent care who is quick to prescribe some antibiotics for almost anything that’s ailing you. Most of the people you see on your television still believe they are a force to be reckoned with, simply because they have Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard, and you know what? They might be right! However, they also have Khris Middleton (who is in competition with Bradley Beal for most random injuries accumulated by an All-Star in the shortest period of time), Brook Lopez (who sometimes looks like he’s ready to get on the dance floor and other times looks like he needs a walking cane), Bobby Portis (who is talented and intimidating, but doesn’t seem to have the secret sauce to convince any coach to start him), Malik Beasley (who’s lethal from deep, but whose shot can also be about as temperamental as Alex Jones), and now Pat Bev (who still has some juice in him and is equal parts vocal leader and distracting pest). Is this a recipe for success, or are they bound to be disappointed in the second round like some dejected thirtysomethings with Obamacare in the waiting room of a semi-clean medical facility?
While we might be worried about the Bucks, the Grizzlies are simply confounding. Their daily injury reports are about as long as Carol Brady’s grocery list. Guys like Scotty Pippen Jr. and Trey Jemison bounce back and forth between the parent club and the Hustle almost every game. Jaren Jackson Jr. is obviously getting shut down ASAP. There is no chance that Desmond Bane or Marcus Smart are coming back this season. Vince Williams Jr. is probably the man in Memphis for the rest of the season, while GG Jackson II is also proving to be a real piece moving forward. Perhaps this lost season isn’t as disastrous as initially thought. After hitting big with JJJ., Bane, and of course, Ja Morant, Zach Kleiman & Co. have whiffed on almost every pick since. That said, having this back-to-back second-round picks break out this season could be huge for them once the core gets healthy and regroups in the offseason.
Stream of the Game
Luke Kennard is questionable with left knee soreness, but if he’s good to go, he’s worth a stream. Santi Aldama is also worth grabbing.
