The Celtics and Hornets have worked on a sign-and-trade for Gordon Hayward that would land Celtics a trade exception, but Charlotte has been trying to find a third team for Nicolas Batum's $27M contract to see if there's a way to avoid waiving-and-stretching his money.

The Hornets are hoping to avoid having $9 million in dead money for each of the next three years which is what will happen if they are unable to find a team that will take on his massive salary. Batum is expected to hit the open market regardless and he should be an interesting addition for contending teams that will be looking to add a veteran swingman to their roster.
