Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News is hearing that Jason Kidd is now a frontrunner in the Knicks' coaching search after contract negotiations with Tom Thibodeau stalled out.

The note about the contract impasse with supposed frontrunner Thibodeau is important to note here, as this could very well be one of the sides trying to leverage their position through the media. With that aside, Bondy notes that the Knicks believe Kidd could help the team attract star players, while there are some within the organization that were not impressed with his actual coaching abilities at previous stops Brooklyn and Milwaukee. Another thing relayed to Bondy was that if the Knicks do hire Kidd, the organization will select some of his assistants in an effort to, "basically to save Kidd from himself."
