Week 5 Injury Roundup

  • Week 2 Injury Report

While we had some injuries in Week 5, we had some positive developments on the injury front as well. A few not so serious injuries, and a few very fantasy relevant reinforcements on their way back to action. Let’s dive into it.

    Will Miss Time

Texans Wide Receiver Nico Collins – Hamstring

Collins left Sunday’s game over the Bills after innocently cruising into the end zone on a 67 yard touchdown catch in the first quarter. He did not return to the game. He was initially listed as day to day but his status has recently been updated week to week. This is obviously a major blow for fantasy owners because Collins has been the league’s leading receiver through five weeks. If Collins can’t go, Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell take on WR1/1A roles. Joe Mixon has also been practicing and should be returning to the Texans lineup soon. All three, if active, are must starts against the Patriots in Week 6.

49ers Kicker Jake Moody – High Ankle Sprain – Week to Week

Yes! We do write about kickers on this site too. Moody sprained his ankle trying to make a tackle on a kickoff. He was carted off the field and was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain. The 49ers are expecting him to miss a few weeks. If Moody is on your team, don’t waste an IR spot on him unless you have one available but there are always kickers available on the wire.

49ers Running Back Christian McCaffrey – Achilles Tendinitis – IR Designated to Return – Minimum 4 Weeks

The news updates on McCaffrey have had too much range to talk about or even think about at this point. The latest is that McCaffrey has ramped up his rehab process as of last week and the workload is expected to increase this one. The 49ers will not open his practice window this week with the team playing in Seattle on Thursday night. Week 9 has seemed like the most realistic return date. It’s still something to monitor and there’s more ambiguity to this situation than any other we’re monitoring. For now, continue to play Jordan Mason until McCaffrey is actually slated to return, and even when CMC does, keep Mason stashed because he’s done enough to earn carries and the 49ers will be careful with McCaffrey to not further aggravate the injury.
