    Vikings +300 bet 1 to win 3

Some of you may remember the height of the Brady/Belicheck era, when the Patriots were racking up Super Bowls and the other three teams in their division were in shambles. The bookies are giving the Packers the same treatment as they gave New England during those years by pricing them at -200 to win the division, and I think it’s a gross miscalculation on their part. The energy in Green Bay continues to grow more and more stale, as they have followed up a disappointing home playoff loss with the departures of two of their four best players, Davante Adams and Za’Darius smith. Aaron Rodgers’ level of commitment to the program and Matt LaFluer continues to be questionable, and the team is now forced to rely on his combination with Aaron Jones and one of the more overrated players in the league in my opinion, Jaire Alexander, to hold together the defense.

With all of that being said, you shouldn’t just think of this bet as a Packers fade, as the Vikings also have a lot going right for them. This is their first season with head coach Kevin O’Connell, and I think he is the perfect fit for this roster. O’Connell is an offensive guy who has had great success in the league, often working with quarterbacks that have the exact same pedigree as Kirk Cousins. O’Connell has proven that he can get the most out of QB’s who lack athleticism and arm strength, but make up for it with intelligence and consistency. The Vikings still have arguably the best skilled positions roster in the league with Theilen/Jefferson/Cook, and I expect them to be much improved on that side of the ball.

Their new GM also proved himself to be shrewd in his first draft in the role. He prioritized defense and offensive line, which were the teams two main needs. Speaking of that defense, the Vikings have an exciting mix of experienced veterans and young talent. Harrison Smith, Patrick Patterson, and Za’Darius Smith have proven themselves to have Pro-Bowl pedigree, and will provide great stability as the young guns settle in. Some of these names include Lewis Cine, a rookie safety who put up an absolutely insane SEVENTY-THREE TACKLES in the SEC last year, and Kenny Willikes, a guy I watched go from walk-on to world class pass rusher, putting up 18 tackles in only 5 games for the Vikings last season.

The Vikings face the Packers week 1 at home. While the Vikings are slight underdogs in that game, last year the Packers got blown out in Lambeau by the lowly Saints, and I expect another slow start from them here. With the Bears and Lions in a rebuild and these odds at 3/1 on FanDuel, I see great value on the Vikings.
