Three pickups for today, featuring a top prospect starting to break out alongside a couple of infielders enjoying a power surge.

James Wood – WSN – OF – 22% ESPN

About a month into his major league career, the skill set of James Wood has been on full display, with a combination of power and speed providing some highlight reel moments. The consistency wasn’t there at first, with a negative average launch angle and 33% strike out rate offsetting his 94.4 MPH average exit velocity. Over the last week the launch angle has improved, and his results have as well. The power and speed combo is clearly there, but he’ll need to pull more balls in the air before his 40 home run potential is realized. This is a perfect pick up for those with some leeway for a speculative option, as Wood provides matchup winning potential in the fantasy playoffs.
