Mostradomus in Review for Week 6

  • Every week I will do a quick drive thru of the all the games and cover the relevant fantasy points.  I will look at things that might be fluky or here to stay and try and point everyone in the right direction for the future.  We never want to overreact to a small-sample size, but sometimes getting in too early is still better than missing the boat entirely.

    Niners 36 – Seahawks 24

TNF is back, kind of.  This game wasn’t great, but there was plenty of action on both sides.  The Niners were in desperation mode and even though they got the win, they remain even more desperate as they may have lost RB Jordan Mason to a shoulder sprain.  Christian McCaffrey can’t return soon enough and for now, Isaac Guerendo who had a 76-yard run to seal the game might be getting lion’s share of carries.  Expect Deebo Samuel to get even more action as he had four ineffective carries, but also a 76-yard bomb to open the scoring.  Brock Purdy keeps throwing multiple TDs every game and blessing fantasy GMs who took him late again.  Brandon Aiyuk remains a mystery and this offense is too potent to keep him down for long.  George Kittle is finally a reliable piece of his juggernaut and he’s the TE1 each week until proven otherwise.  Geno Smith kept his passing yard lead on the league with another 300-yard effort.  Seattle’s drop back rate is a league-high 70 percent, 8 percent over expected and the passing TDs are bound to start flowing soon.  DK Metcalf narrowly missed having a TD bomb, but he seems to never show up vs. the Niners.  Tyler Lockett is the best WR on this team week-in-and-week-out, which is very surprising.  Jaxon Smith-Njigba is being kept in the stables, but he was second on the team in targets.  I’m getting tired of saying this, but his time is coming.  Never back RBs on Thursday night, another thing I’ve said over and over again and Kenneth Walker only had 32 rush yards on 14 attempts, but led the team in catches

Pickup of the game: RB Isaac Guerendo  – Priority Maximum

    Bears 35 – Jaguars 16

We got two definitive answers in this game.  The Bears are legit and the Jags are a mess.  We were pretty sure, but now we know.  Caleb Williams is on a tear and has more TD passes already than Justin Fields or Mitch Trubisky in their entire rookie seasons.  The Jags secondary is a joke, but four TDs is still elite.  He’s also making it happen on the ground with 56 yards, so congrats if you took Williams and stuck with him.  That goes double for D’Andre Swift who was dropped in many leagues after his putrid start.  He’s now got at least 70 rush yards and a TD in three straight games.  Roschon Johnson is TD dependant and that didn’t hit today, so he’s just a stash most weeks.  Cole Kmet continues to be the TE underdog of the season and he had two TDs.  You have to start him over almost everyone.  The WR room is crowded and no one is separating themselves, which is a disaster for fantasy GMs.  Rome Udunze has the highest ceiling, DJ Moore is the most reliable and Keenan Allen has the highest floor.   The Jags might suck, but Evan Engram is back.  He led the team in receptions and targets and that means Brian Thomas Jr. was the odd man out.  This offense should be elite and it’s time to start blaming Trevor Lawrence.  His stats weren’t bad, but something just isn’t clicking.  Travis Etienne got hurt and he’s week-to-week, which means Tank Bigsby is the fantasy lottery winner for the near future.  He graduates to must-own and must-start and the only thing that can stop him is the Jags defense.  Gabe Davis had two TDs, but should have had three and like the Bears, it’s going to be impossible to predict who pops each week.

Pickup of the game – RB Tanks Bigsby – Priority High

    Texans 41 – Patriots 21

The Drake Maye era is well under way after the Pats’ offense finally looked credible.  Maye had two INTs, but he also had three TDs and more passing yards than Jacoby Brissett did in any game all season.  His 9.2 percent touchdown rate won’t hold, naturally, but it’s good for everyone in this offense that Maye pushed the ball downfield a little bit.  The Texans’ defense is no joke either and Maybe looked at home running the ball as well finding potential star DeMario Douglas for a TD.   His 29 percent target share easily led the Pats, as did his 80 air yards.  The Pats were without Rhamondre Stevenson, which meant Antonio Gibson time, but he really struggled, averaging 1.5 YPC.  Ja’Lynn Polk is supposed to be the future, but he only had one reception on four targets.  Douglas is a must-own player right now and could be a WR2 be the end of the season.  It’s confusing why the Pats waiting this long to unleash Maybe, but he’s here to stay.  The Texan offense didn’t miss a beat without Nico Collins and the return of Joe Mixon really gave them balance.  CJ Stroud might be the best QB in the league by the end of the season and he shredded the Pats for three TDs even though he didn’t have 200 passing yards.  The Texans badly missed Mixon, who busted 59-yard run early in the game and Cam Akers can be left back on the scrap pile.  Even Dameon Pierce looked good and the Texans could have a potent rushing attack going forward.  Stefon Diggs had no problem stepping up into the WR1 role and he’s going to pop off for at least the next three weeks.  Tank Dell should be right behind him.

Pickup of the game – WR DeMario Douglas – Priority High

    Ravens 30 – Commanders 23

The game of the week started off with a whimper, but ended with a bang as Derrick Henry did what he does and that is destroy teams late in the game with massive runs.  He’s the new CMC as he’s a TD lock every week.  The only downside is that he’s taking a bit of the shine off what Lamar Jackson does best as he only had 40 yards rushing and isn’t beating teams up the middle like he has done in past seasons.  Zay Flowers is a WR1 for all those who doubted him in the summer and he looked dynamic, doing everything except scoring.  Rashod Bateman has finally made the leap and he is a must-roster player and low-end flex play each week.  The Commanders struggled to run the ball vs. the elite BAL defense and neither Jayden Daniels, nor Austin Ekeler had any success on the ground.  Daniels was great again through the air as he had multiple TDs, over 270 yards and no INTs.  It’s scary how good he is going to be and how good he is right now.  They missed Brian Robinson Jr. and hopefully he is back soon.  Terry McLaurin is the WR1, but he’s not running away with the targets, as he only had seven of the 33.  Daniels spreads it around, but in the red zone, he clearly trust McLaurin who had two TDs.

Pickup of the Game – WR Rashod Bateman– Priority Med

    Eagles 20 – Browns 16`

This game was ugly to watch and the Browns only kept is close with blocked FG returned for a TD to end the first half.  The Browns are toast and their only chance at salvation is to bench Deshaun Watson and feed Nick Chubb.  One of those two will happen in Week 7, but who knows how effective Chubb will be out of the gate.  Jerome Ford is going to miss some time though and maybe the Browns just drop Chubb into the wild.  With Watson playing this poorly, it’s hard to start any WRs as Jerry Jeudy and Amari Cooper are maddeningly inconsistent week-to-week.  The Eagles got AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith back and boy did they miss them.  Each scored and lit up the CLE defense as Saquon Barkley finally had a bad game.  He will be fine.  Jalen Hurts rushed 14 times which seems crazy, but he also only had 33 yards which is crazier.  The Eagles are finally healthy and could be primed to go on a run here.

Pickup of the game – Pierre Strong – Priority Low

    Packers 34 – Cardinals 13

The Cardinals mailed this game in as the Packers put them away early.  The Jordan Love hype train is full and even though Dontayvion Wicks got hurt and will miss some time, there is enough talent and depth to go around.  Christian Watson returned and finally scored a long TD, he’s back to WR2 status with massive upside.  Jayden Reed scored, but also got hurt and hopefully he will be fine going forward.  This game was over quickly so, if you weren’t part of the Love four TD parade early, there wasn’t much left in the second half.  Josh Jacobs was on his way to a big day, but sat the fourth quarter as the Packers handed it off to guys off the street.  Romeo Doubs scored twice after being suspended and the Packers WR looks crowded, but everyone still might eat.  They are for real.  The Cardinals are frauds though and you can’t trust them at all.  Marvin Harrison Jr. had a concussion which ended his day early and James Connor was scripted out of the game.  Kyler Murray ran seven times for 14 yards and while he was okay throwing the ball, it was all garbage time.  Trey McBride was the long bright spot and he’s proven to be very reliable each game and he just needs to score.

Pickup of the game –WR Michael Wilson  – Priority Low
