How’d We Get Here?
The Wizards have had a wild few months. They kicked things off by buying low on both Trae Young and Anthony Davis, executing a pair of low-risk deals to add two former All-Stars that the team would have no chance of acquiring under more typical circumstances. While both players have their drawbacks, adding Young and Davis gives the Wizards a huge infusion of talent. Neither Young nor Davis was a factor after being acquired by the Wizards, allowing the team to completely bottom out and win the final tank-friendly draft lottery. AJ Dybantsa is a massive addition to a young group that already features Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, Bilal Coulibaly and Tre Johnson, and paired with the likes of Davis and Young you suddenly have to view the Wizards as a team vying for a playoff spot, even in a loaded Eastern Conference. The Wizards added more depth in the offseason with Deandre Ayton and Khris Middleton joining the fold, and while there are major questions about how all the pieces will fit together, the fans in Washington have real reason to be excited for the first time since John Wall was at the height of his powers.
