Points leagues are like walking into a carnival game with the targets standing still. You can clean up if you know what you’re doing, mostly because these leagues often attract managers who are either new to fantasy basketball or chasing the breezy, once-a-week rhythm of fantasy football. There are a few wrinkles, some leagues throw in penalties for bricked free throws or missed field goals, others hand out points for just about anything: double-doubles, triple-doubles, technicals, maybe even the occasional ejection if your commissioner’s feeling spicy.
But most of the time, points leagues strip the percentages out of the equation. And that’s where the sharks feast. If you’ve got real projections, not just rankings lifted from a 9-cat cheat sheet, you can absolutely steamroll. A lot of managers walk into these drafts armed with standard-league ADPs, blissfully unaware that the math underneath their strategy just changed. Bring Bruski 150 projections into that room and you’re basically holding the answers to the test.

Assists: 1.5
Steals: 3
Blocks: 3
Turnovers: -1
The fascinating twist in Yahoo’s setup isn’t just that it averages your players’ scores per week, meaning a one-game superstar can outproduce a four-game grinder, it’s how assists carry so much weight. Guards, obviously, eat. But if you can find forwards or centers who dish, think Alpren Sengun or Domantas Sabonis, you’re playing 3D chess while everyone else is still sorting their depth charts.
And with steals and blocks both capped at three points apiece, the system quietly tilts the board toward offense. It’s less about hunting stocks and more about volume, efficiency be damned. In other words: if you’re still drafting like it’s a 9-cat league, you’re already behind.
