Field goal percentage is one of the most deceptive categories in fantasy basketball. On the surface, a player shooting 41% does not seem catastrophic until you realize he is taking 20 shots a night and, in doing so, hurting your chances of winning that category despite seemingly being a top player who looked like a steal on draft night. Volume is the key here, and when paired with inefficiency, it can quietly sink your efforts on a daily basis, or even for weeks, and then you find yourself trying to make that back up with an unlikable drop or stream.
In this article, I wanted to highlight once again the players who, based on last season’s production, hurt your team the most in FG% when accounting for both attempts and efficiency. These numbers were taken from Basketball Monster’s 2024–25 top player rater, specifically the top-188 players, to determine last season’s ten worst performers (among fantasy-relevant players) in field goal percentage. As always, this is not a prediction for 2025–26 but a reflection of how these players actually performed in 2024-25.
LaMelo Ball – Charlotte Hornets
LaMelo Ball tops this year’s list, and it is not difficult to see why. He played 47 games, averaging 25.2 points, 7.4 assists, and 3.8 threes, but it came at the cost of shooting just 40.5% on 21.3 attempts per game. Despite his star power and, in most cases, being a top 15-20 pick regardless of format, that level of volume at that efficiency is devastating in category formats. His 35.7% usage rate highlights how heavily the Hornets leaned on him when he was healthy, and while his all-around line was strong, the FG% drag was unavoidable. It would be wise to keep in mind that this will likely be the case this upcoming season as well. The Hornets are a considerably better team than in previous seasons, but he is the face of the franchise. Fantasy managers can still view him as an early-round talent, but if you invest here, you must pair him with bigs who shoot 55% or better to soften the blow. Otherwise, you are effectively punting FG% the moment you draft him. He is also known to miss about half of the season, so availability plus inefficient high-volume shooting are key things to keep in mind for this season’s field goal killers list frontrunner.
Taylor Hendricks – Utah Jazz
