Fantasy Basketball Draft Guide 2025: Face-off, Jamal Murray vs. Derrick White

Our Fantasy Face-Off series will feature two SportsEthos staffers making their arguments in a head-to-head battle of comparable fantasy players.

Derrick White and Jamal Murray are going by the end of the third round or sometimes the start of the fourth round. Both have high fantasy floors with the upside to finish above their ADPs. Today it’s Tim Woodson on call to fight for Murray and Pedro Oliviera laying down the facts for White.

Jamal Murray just had his best-ever fantasy finish of 24/19 (8-cat/9-cat) per game across 67 appearances in 2024-25. He set career highs of 21.4 points, 1.4 steals, .886 FT% and 3.7 FTA per game. Murray has typically been one to start slow and finish strong, ranking outside of the top-60 (both 8/9-cat) across his first 15 games last season before climbing his way up. If Murray can get off to a better start this season and maintain some of his highs from last season, fantasy managers can expect great things.

Derrick White has been a fantasy star when it comes to doing all of the little things. In 2024-25, that was good for 49/34 (8/9-cat) value per game. White averaged career highs in minutes (33.9), points (16.4), threes (3.5) and rebounds (4.5). With Jayson Tatum (Achilles) out for most if not all of the season (Tatum would say otherwise), the Celtics will have to lean on White as a creator more than ever. He should see his 19.8% usage from last season climb as Tatum’s immense 31.2% usage is shared around. What can that do for White’s points, threes and assists? Can he maintain his good marks in other areas with the extra work on offense?

Both players have high floors with enticing potential.
