How’d We Get Here?
The Hornets continued to spin their wheels without going much of anywhere at all. New coach Charles Lee was able to freshen things up a bit, with the Hornets sporting better defensive numbers and a more modern-looking offensive system that drastically increased the team’s 3-point attempts. Injuries once again played a major role in the Hornets’ final standing. LaMelo Ball played in 47 games (an improvement for him). Brandon Miller missed the last 45 games after tearing a ligament in his wrist. Mark Williams missed the first 20 games of the season with foot troubles (and then was traded and un-traded, which is pretty awkward). Only four Hornets appeared in more than 60 games, so the team’s offensive struggles aren’t a big surprise. There were some positive signs, but nothing tangible in the standings, and that Charlotte’s most notable offseason moves were youth-focused suggests another year of building is in the cards.
