2024-25 Draft Guide Team Preview: Toronto Raptors

  • How’d We Get Here?

The Raptors did most of their major roster surgery during the middle of the 2023-24 season, leading to a fairly quiet summer that saw the team reward their own and add some more young talent. Toronto has made big bets on Scottie Barnes and Immanuel Quickley, though the max for Barnes was always coming and Quickley’s contract structure might have the deal looking like a bargain in a couple years if he continues to improve. They were able to add hard-nosed defensive guard Davion Mitchell on the cheap, giving the Raptors the type of real defensive bulldog they haven’t had in a minute. They added a similar player at the back of the draft in Jamal Shead and picked up potential 3-and-D wing Ja’Kobe Walter in the first round and one of the draft’s more untested but electrifying prospects in Jonathan Mogbo to kick off the second. The Raptors have at least two core pieces in place and are hoping to uncover a few more long-term solutions as they go along.
