How’d We Get Here?
The Magic rode a strong defense to a resurgent season and the vibes were high even after a close first-round defeat at the hands of the Cavs. Orlando had two major weaknesses entering the offseason: 3-and-D wings and the center spot. They jumped all over the first, signing Kentavious Caldwell-Pope away from the Nuggets. As for the second, the Magic chose to re-sign their entire rotation. One out of two isn’t bad, especially considering how great a fit KCP is with what the Magic need. It wasn’t a summer for the Magic to swing big, but adding a very good player at a position of need is a great way to set yourself up for a huge, eye-catching move down the line.
