Key Storylines

Delayed gratification – Gordon Hayward was the upgrade the Thunder went with but he is not going to see the court until after the All-Star Game. Who knows how soon after the break he will return. Lu Dort will continue to have low-level 3-and-D streaming value until then and Josh Giddey’s role is safe, for now. When Hayward starts getting minutes, those two will lose a ton of value and are at real risk of being off the 12-team radar.

No more LIvely? – Dereck Lively II’s role in Dallas is probably going to be limited with the arrival of Daniel Gafford and PJ Washington. Gafford and Washington are better positioned to help Dallas win real basketball games. Lively is a liability at the charity stripe and turns the ball over too much for someone with his usage. He is a raw talent and has an incredibly bright future in fantasy and in real basketball. But the Mavs have Luka and Kyrie now. They want to win NOW. Gafford and Washington put them in a better position to win games. Hold Lively, just in case I’m wrong and he is able to squeeze out enough minutes. Both are set to make their debuts today.
