Clippers guard Lou Williams said on Thursday in a video interview hosted by CoStar that he's "50-50 right now" as far as his decision on returning to play next month in Orlando is concerned, citing the importance of the country's battle with racial injustices currently.
Williams is worried that the NBA's current plan to return to action will distract the public from the immensely-important social issue at hand. Kyrie Irving, Avery Bradley and other players have expressed similar concerns recently. “I think for us, the only benefit of us not playing is to keep the focus on the fight,” Williams stated in the interview. He noted that he fears that the public perception might not be positive because it could seem like the players and the league don't care about the social issues. Echoing statements made by many across the sports landscape, Williams went on to say "this is a whirlwind of a time. We don’t know what’s the right decision now." Truer words may never have been spoken.
